We’re On KinkOnTap!
KinkOnTap is a weekly netcast that seeks to address sexuality, feminism and queer culture in a hearty and intelligent way, stripped of eroticization, sensationalism and self-aggrandizement. This week, host MayMay brought up our coverage of the Porn Cop fiasco over in Hollywood, Florida. He writes:
Mike Verdugo was fired — quite a few months ago — for a porn role he was in 14 years ago. He was fired not for being in porn but for failing to put the 15-minute appearance of being in porn on his police application. So they called him a liar and unethical and therefore disciplined him to go to ethics training and a year probation.
And then as if that wasn’t enough, city officials decided he should never work as a cop again in Florida, stripping him of his career. They filed a notion to get his officer’s license revoked. It thankfully did not happen. What’s interesting is that he had already been sentenced.
Our friends over at Sex and the 405 note that the anti-porn sentiment that had been fuming in that city after that same weekend’s AVN conference had gone unnoticed by a majority of the media, and one wonders what the connection between these two things may be.
